Our 9,000 sq. ft. fitness center is unrivaled in the area. The Gateway has the only Fitness Center in the area (9,000 square feet of it!) equipped with Techno-Gym, the latest state-of-the-art strength training equipment.  In addition, every piece of cardio equipment has its own personal TV and radio.  We offer a multitude of fitness classes, most of which are included with your membership.

Our fitness programming includes boot camp aerobics, Yoga, spinning classes, Pilates and more!

Yoga

In this class you will go through different postures and positions to stretch and relax the body.  This is a perfect class for someone who enjoys the tranquility of deep breathing and flexing.  Come relax your body and mind with us!

Low Level Yoga

If you are someone with no experience with yoga this class is a great class to start with.  In this beginner approach to Yoga you will learn basic poses and breathing techniques to help start your day off right.  This class is wonderful for our senior adult members!

Personal Training        

Our Personal Trainers are the best in Winston-Salem!  Each trainer maintains a certification by a nationally accredited association.  We take pride in our commitment to staffing the most professional team of trainers.  

We offer hour and half hour sessions for your convenience.
    Half Hour Session:     $30
    Hour Session:          $60

Muay Thai Kickboxing        

In this hour long martial arts class students are taught proper stance and footwork as well as proper form on punches, kicks, elbows, and knees.  Students hit pads and pound the bag to perfect the proper technique.  This class is taught by a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, Chris Clodfelter.  Be sure to try it—you’ll be glad you did!

Judo

In this class learn the ancient art that has become a national treasure in Japan, Judo.  Judo means "Gentle Way", but that is definitely not what your opponent will think as you learn various throws, takedowns, and submissions to defend yourself.

Tai Chi

Find your inner peace while you learn self defense through the ancient art of Tai Chi.  Tai Chi expert Michael Joyce will take you through the many forms of Chen style.  This class will put you in a proper state of wellbeing.

Metabolic Effect

Metabolic Effect is scientific based exercise that works FOR your body and not AGAINST it. Cardio ZUMBA

Dance your way into shape with this Latin influenced cardio dance class.  In this class you will forget you’re exercising and just feel like you’re having fun!  Come push your cardio to the max with this high energy, and very exciting dance aerobics class.  During this class Latin inspired dance moves are used to shape and tone your body like no other class can!

African Dance

Come experience the beauty and culture of this African dance class.  Angel Shannon takes you through the intricate dances that define the African culture.  You just HAVE to try this class!

Lifeguard Certification Class
Have you always wanted to be a lifeguard?  Do you want to get paid for hanging around the pool?  If you answered “yes”, then now’s your chance to get a head start!  This is one of the only Lifeguard

Lifeguard Training Schedule for 2009


You must be 15 to take the course or have turned 15 by the date of completion. You must

also pass a pre-course swim test before you can register for the course.

Pre-course Swim tests will be held by appointment, please call 354-1490 ext 307 to

schedule a time. You MUST pass the swim before you register for the class. NO swim

appointments will be conducted the day of the first class.


The pre-course swim test consists of a 500 yd. continuous swim. Involving, 100

yards breaststroke and 200 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing. You must also be

able to retrieve a 10 lb. brick from a depth of 7 ft. and swim back to the wall on your back

using a kick only and then hop out of the pool.

Upon completion and passing of the course you will receive your Lifeguard training

and First Aid certification which is good for 3 years and your CPR for the professional

Rescuer w/AED which is good for 1 year.

course through the front desk.

ARC Lifeguard Training Course Dates:

1. December 17, 18, 19 from 5:00-9:00pm and December 20, 21 from 8:00-5:00pm

2. March 11, 12, 13 from 5:00-9:00pm and March 14, 15 from 8:00-5:00pm

3. March 25, 26, 27 from 5:00-9:00pm and March 28, 29 from 8:00-5:00pm

4. March 31, April 1, 2, 3 from 8:00-5:00pm (Forsyth break)

5. April 22, 23, 24 from 5:00-9:00pm and April 25, 26 from 8:00-5:00pm

A bag lunch is suggested and an extra towel.

 
Teen X-Bike Class

This is a high energy teen only workout that uses Trixter X-Bikes!  The X-Bikes allow you to receive a work out that is as close to mountain bike cycling as you can get because the bikes move with you to lean into turns and help work your core.  Besides all that, we’ll have great music!

Sunday Morning Bike Ride

Come and experience the beauty of Winston-Salem with our Sunday outdoor bike rides.  This is an informal, leisure bike ride through our historic city.  If you are looking for a way to exercise with a fun group—come join the ride!  The ride starts at 7:00am and is led by members.

Price: Included in Membership
Day & Time: Sundays at 7:00am
Location: Gateway entrance

 
Holiday Art Day

This is a fun filled day where kids will get to draw, paint, cut & paste.  The kids will get to use their creativity to make decorations and gifts for the holiday season. Not only will they make something for everyone on their list but we will also play games in the pool.  This program is designed for 1st—5th graders.  Your child is sure to be all tuckered out when they get home!

Price: $50 for Members & $55 for Non-Members (covers the cost of supplies)
Day & Time:  December 21st 8:00am—5:00pm
Location:  Check-in at the lobby
