Schoolsite Child Care

The YWCA of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County currently offers Before and After School Care at the following public schools:

Lowrance Middle School

This After School program focus is on any special needs student, ages 5 through 16 years old enrolled in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.  It is designed for each child to have fun while learning and experiencing new ventures.  Weekly schedules will be posted on the school site and parents are welcome to visit at anytime.  Structured program is planned throughout the school year including homework supervision, group games and art/craft projects.

This program is available from 2:15pm - 5:30pm on regularly scheduled school days.

Bolton Elementary School, Hall-Woodward Elementary School, Mineral Springs Elementary and North Hills Elementary School

The YWCA Twist of Adventure program is offered at each of these schools both before and after regular school hours.  Each of these programs include the following

  • Homework completed with assistance from certified teachers.
  • Governed academically by the "Merit System Software" program, which is researched based software and hard copy program that is age appropriate for elementary students and correlates to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.  The program allows the student the ability to be pre/post tested throughout the course of each studied subject.
  • "Best Practices Model" through the Asset Development Program of the "Search Institute" which is a research based proven model.  Students participate in up to 40 developmental assets offering such benefits as positive values, social competency, empowerment, boundaries and expectations.
  • Project Alert - Proven research based age appropriate anti-drug, including prescription drugs, prevention program with real "no use" results.
  • "Self Protection - Don't Go With A Stranger" - Students role play, demonstrations, speakers, pre/post testing on learned ways children "Must" keep themselves SAFE at all times.
  • Celebration Games - Physical Activities for every month.
  • Game Time - Swimming (Gateway Fitness Center), bowling, skating, art, dance, crafts and board games.

During school out days, the YWCA will provide childcare at the Best Choice Center except on YWCA holidays/other closings to its school population.
